MANIPULATING GEOMETRY

Thanks to blogs like “Eduteca” I have found another interesting idea for introducing geometry in a 4º class in a funny and manipulative way. It consists of using drinking straws or any other sticks and modeling clay. Having those materials we can create geometrics bodies and study them while we are creating and after doing it.

This activity helps student to understand better polyhedron and recognize the part which compose them, the drinking straws are the edges and the modeling clay represent the vertexes.

From my point of view those are not the only benefits of this activity, it also provide the student with collaborative chances. Even more, they understand what they learn by doing and they can remember easily the knowledge by lived experiences. You can also add more functions to this activity and make it more complex for elder students.
